GMO's
GMOs...also known as genetically modified organisms. This molecular science tool is used to protect crops and increase harvests by altering the DNA of the organism in a way that would not occur naturally. 🌽 While there is concern about GMOs having a cumulative impact on the environment and the introduction of new food allergens from these new protein products, there is no sound evidence that the genetic engineering of these crops has long term health risks...at least yet. What's of bigger concern is all herbicides and pesticides they still spray these crops with, as well as all your other conventional fruits and vegetables, that are of major concern. 🌽 Herbicides such as glyphosate, carbamates, pyrethroids, and sulfonylureas are fat soluble neurotoxins which accumulate in your adipose and brain tissue. If you buy organic, you're not getting nearly the level of exposure to all those herbicides and pesticides. But don't be fooled. Just because you by organic does not mean you completely prevent your exposure to these toxins. It's criminal that today there is a need to buy organic and that price comes as a premium. There was no "organic" 25 years ago... 🌽 Have you ever seen farmers spray crops? It's crazy to me that when they spray these crops they wear full on hazmat suits since exposure to these chemicals is hazardous to their health and yet we eat these crops! Again, it's not an issue of consumption over one meal, over a week, or even a month. It's the chronic consumption of conventional produce and GMOs that leads to imbalances in the body that leads to chronic disease progression. 🌽 So how can we make more educated decisions when choosing our food? If it's labeled organic, it's certified non-GMO. Always. If it's labeled as non-GMO, that does not mean it is organic unless labeled. So what am I getting to? Buy organic. Can't afford to buy predominantly organic? Familiarize yourself with the dirty dozen and clean 15 through the EWG. This will tell you which foods are most heavily sprayed and should always be bought organic. 🌽 Sugar beets, corn, soy, and canola should ALWAYS be bought organic, since these crops are the most genetically modified. And remember, corn and soy products are used as food stabilizers in almost all processed foods as well as being the main feed for all conventional livestock. Why? It's cheap! And we have lots of it. So conventional meat contains all these GMOs and pesticides as well in their flesh. 🌽 When we feed these animals a diet compromised of soy and corn which is not a part of their natural diet, the animals produce an imbalanced ratio of more pro-inflammatory omega 6 essential fatty acids to omega 3 fatty acids. Imagine if you were only fed corn and soy your entire life? That's why there is so much craze about organic free-range pastured eggs and chicken, grass fed beef, and wild fish. These animals are able to eat a natural diet, void of these pro inflammatory fatty acids, hormones, antibiotics, and GMO feed. Source really matters. Be educated when choosing your foods.
