Oil Pulling with coconut oil
We all have heard the amazing health benefits of coconut oil, but did you know it can also be used as an antiseptic MOUTH WASH? Also known as "oil pulling" in Ayurvedic medicine, swishing around coconut oil is an effective oral detoxification procedure that has the potential to heal cavities and bleeding gums, kill bad breath, reduce inflammation, strengthen gums, prevent cavities, AND naturally whiten teeth!
Coconut oil is a saturated fat made up of medium chain triglycerides which are predominantly comprised of caprylic and lauric acid. Caprylic and lauric acid are potent antimicrobials, meaning they naturally kill unwanted bacteria, viruses, and fungi. You can think of these powerful antimicrobials working in a similar way that soap cleans dirty dishes. They literally suck the dirt/toxins out of you mouth and leave a clean antiseptic environment.
Ditch your standard alcohol-based mouth washes which contain synthetic chemicals and kill your beneficial bacteria in your mouth that help create a clean and healthy oral environment. There is a reason that standard mouthwash labels state "DO NOT SWALLOW. IF INGESTED, CONTACT A POISON CONTROL CENTER RIGHT AWAY."
So how do you do it? Take a half spoonful of UNREFINED VIRGIN COCONUT OIL and place it in your mouth (it will melt in our mouth). It is important to choose VIRGIN coconut oil to insure you have all the raw materials and no high heat was used in the extraction process. Swish coconut oil around for 10-15 minutes and spit out in the toilet. I typically do this in the morning and swish it around while I'm in the shower. Try it out! It typically takes up to 21 days to see a shade difference in your teeth.
